What is OCD?

Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) is a mental health disorder characterized by persistent, repeated, and intrusive thoughts, images, or urges (obsessions) that cause distress and impair your quality of life. OCD is often cyclical: you experience obsessive thoughts and then perform ritualistic behaviors (compulsions) to get rid of them. This may work for a while, but after a time, you have obsessive thoughts again, perform the compulsions, and so on. OCD is often associated with severe anxiety and fear.

Treatment for OCD

Evidence shows that the best OCD treatments are a combination of medications and therapy. Dr. Bosch typically employs exposure and response prevention (ERP) therapy for OCD, but may utilize acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) as well. Both are common OCD treatments and have been shown to be effective.

If you feel imprisoned by intrusive thoughts, don’t wait. Schedule a free fifteen-minute phone consultation with Dr. Bosch today to discuss how she can help you break free.
